Percussionist and vocalist John Collins had the great fortune of growing up in a musical family. At age five his dad began teaching him to play the accordion. Through the years John has also studied piano, guitar, clarinet, trumpet, and
percussion, his specialty. John holds a Degree in Music Education from Penn State University and was a music teacher
for six years prior to joining his brother and late father in the family's insurance business.
John has been performing since the age of 12, when he joined "Sammy Dee and the Satellites" as their drummer. Later, he played with several Pennsylvania bands including The Lighterside, Neil Kepner and Friends, Seasoned Sounds Swing Band, and the very popular Johnny Collins and the Caravans, fronted by his dad.
John's favorite musicians include all-time great drummers Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, and Louie Bellson.
John's gear includes a custom set of Ludwig drums, Zildjian cymbals, and Vic Firth sticks and accessories.
John resides in Pottsgrove, PA with wife Barb. They have two grown children and one grandchild.
